Co 86032 is a high sugar variety growth in
different factory zones of Tamilnadu. The variety occupies an area of 10 % to
80% in the different factory zones. Through the variety is susceptible by plug
method of testing it showed nodal resistances when inoculated with fresh red
hot debris in pot culture.
In certain sugar factory area viz., Khothari sugars and pennadam sugar co 86032 remained free of red rot where as other varieties viz., Coc 671, Coc 92061, Cosi 96071 were susceptible when grown side by side. it clearly indicate field tolerances nature of Co 86032 under endemic locations. However much precautions are required to keep the variety free of red rot disease. 1. Seed obtaining either through tissue culture/ Three tier seed nursery programme alone should be utilized for planning. Seed should not be procured from other agencies and other red rot prone areas. 2. Ratoon crop should be clearly monitored for any possible red rot incidence. 3. If any drying, yellow of clumps are noticed it should be brought to the notice of factory authorities 4. Movement of red rot infected canes from red rot prone area to red rot free area should be prevented through domestic quarantine. 5. Red rot infected sugarcane fields should be rotated with paddy crop to destroy surviving debris borne inoculum in the field. 6. If red rot infected clumps are noticed the infected stool should be uprooted immediately and destroyed. 7. Prevention of irrigation from disease affected field to disease free fields will avoid further spread of the disease.
Co 86032 is susceptible to both shoot borer and internode borer. The attack of shoot borer is heavy during dry summer season and in ratoons. To minimize the shoot borer infection : · The crop may be planted during December - January. · In summer, crop should be frequently irrigated with an 'earthing up' by 45th day of planting. · The borer attack may be minimize by the release of 125 females of sturmiopsis inferens / ha or spraying granulosis virus (100 LE/ha) on 35th day after planting. · During late season planting, spraying of lindane 20 EC@51/ha EC@51/ha as 15 ml /10 liter water using rose can, in furrow or applying sevidol granules @ 12 kg/ha mixed with equal amount of sand leaf whorls or @ 25 kg/ha at the base 35 days after planting controls the pest.
To manage internode borer problem, regular detrashing during 5,7 and 9th month of planting as well as removal of water shoots may be taken up. Release of the egg parasitoid trichogramma chilonis @ 2.5 cc/ha at 15 days interval during 5th to 10th month of crop is recommended. |
